What You Need To Know About Wix Email in 2023

Wix Email Accounts And Domains

If you’re building your own website at a low cost, Wix may be your choice of website builder. You can even get started with Wix for free, but Wix pricing is for a separate occassion.

Today we’re focussing on Wix email, how does Wix provide email, and Wix domains.

Wix’s website builder plans don’t include email accounts, so if you want a professional-looking email address, you’ll need to look at their email service.

Note: You’ll need a domain name in order to create a professional-looking email address such as info@yourdomain.com – if you run a business, this looks much better than name@gmail.com and creates a sense of trust.

What Is A Professional Email Address?

A professional email address uses your website’s domain name. A domain name is the URL that you and your website visitors use to access your website on the internet, e.g. www.mydomain.com.

Business email addresses make your website look professional and don’t have to cost a lot. Wix allows you to create email addresses for individuals or team members, with options such as:

  • hello@yourdomain.com
  • marketing@yourdomain.com
  • sales@yourdomain.com

Custom email addresses can help you build trust with your customers, showing them that you’re a credible business who have spent the time and effort to create a professional email. Research has confirmed that professional emails have a higher open rate than personal email addresses, allowing you to strengthen your brand and increase conversions.

Creating Your First Wix Website

Creating your first, second, third, or even fourth website with Wix is really easy. They’ve designed their platform to be beginner-friendly, and it does exactly that.

Navigate to Wix’s homepage and click Get Started to begin building your first website.

Wix’s editor is very easy to use, allowing you to drag and drop elements you want onto your website. There’s a wide choice of templates to get started with, ranging from photography websites to restaurants.

Whether you’re looking to add headings, title bars, menus, or even a blog, Wix can guide you through the whole process. You can even design your website separately on mobile if you want to give it a different look altogether. Wix is designed to be mobile friendly, so your website will already be on the right track for SEO.

Wix's Premium Plans

Wix’s Premium plans are split between website plans, business and eCommerce plans, and enterprise plans. Within each plan there are diffrent levels of pricing you can choose when you subscribe to Wix. Here are my suggestions for which plan to select:

  • Website: Ideal for small professional websites, small businesses, and personal use
  • Business & eCommerce: Perfect for starting your first online store or growing eCommerce website
  • Enterprise: Custom solutions tailored exactly to your needs, suitable for large businesses
Wix’s website plans start from $14 per month and all include a custom domain and free domain for 1 year. That means you won’t have to purchase your domain separately and you can use it to connect to your Wix email account.

Note: The prices displayed on Wix’s pricing page are based on yearly subscriptions paid in full. They are the equivalent monthly prices for paying a year upfront and don’t include taxes.

Wix’s pricing plans include a 14-day money-back guarantee, so if you’re not happy during this period you can cancel and receive a full refund. Wix does offer a free plan but you won’t be able to connect your domain, redeem a free domain, or create a professional email address.

How To Connect Your Domain On Wix

If you’ve purchased a domain through Wix, or signed up to one of their premium plans which includes a free domain for the first year, you can easily connect and assign your domain to your website:

  1. Navigate to the Domains page
  2. Assign your domain to your website

If you have multiple domains or multiple websites, you can assign them to different websites and unassign them easily through Wix’s domain manager.

Wix Email Subscription And Plans

To purchase a mailbox through Wix’s email plans, you need to select Mailboxes from the left-hand sidebar in your Wix account.

Personalized Wix emails are created through G Suite mailbox directly from Wix. G suite mailbox includes:

  • Personalized email address
  • Access to Google calendar
  • 30GB storage for Inbox and Google Drive

Google Workspace is a great cloud storage solution for professional emails. However, it doesn’t fair well for those who are on a budget. You’ll have to pay $6 per user per month which isn’t very affordable. For small businesses and personal emails, I’d recommend other providers like Zoho Workplace. They offer a free plan for up to 5 email accounts.

Purchasing A Domain Elsewhere

If you want to purchase your domain name elsewhere, or you already own a domain name, you may want to consider what options you have.

You can either transfer or connect your domain to your Wix website. There are differences betwee these two methods so we’re going to go through them now.

Transferring A Domain To Wix

This will mean you can move your domain from your domain name provider (like GoDaddy) over to Wix. Keeping your domain name and website in one places is helpful as you only have one company to deal with, and it’s free to do. However, there are important things you should know before proceeding with this method:

  • Not all domain name extensions are supported by Wix (check supported domain names)
  • You’ll need to wait for 60+ days to pass after registering a domain name to be able to transfer it
  • If your domain name has privacy protection then you can’t transfer your domain and you’ll need to disable it
  • Ensure you have access to the email address associated with your domain as your confirmation email will be sent to this location

Connecting A Domain Name To Wix

I’ve already shown you how to connect your domain name purchased through Wix via the Wix Domains section. However, if you haven’t purchased your domain name from Wix and have a domain elsewhere that you don’t want to transfer, you can still connect your domain name to your Wix website.

You can either:

  1. Connect via name servers (Wix controls your DNS)
  2. Point your domain name (DNS contolled by your registrar)
Option 1 is easier if you’re not using an email inbox with your domain name. However, if you’re already using an email provider elsewhere, pointing your domain name to Wix is probably more convenient. You won’t have to make any changes to your email account and your domain will simply point to your Wix website.
