There are a lot of different VPNs on the market today, and it can feel almost impossible to determine which one is going to be right for you. The good news is that I have done all of the hard work so that you don’t have to.

FrootVPN is based in Sweden. In terms of jurisdictions for VPNs, this is not one of the best. Sweden is part of the 14 Eyes Alliance. This means it is one of 14 countries that have agreed to share data with one and other.
What is the FrootVPN server network like?
The FrootVPN server network is relatively small, consisting of 36 servers that are spread across 19 countries. Of these 36 servers, 12 of them are actually based in Sweden. The rest are spread across the world, including Israel, Brazil, and Russia.
The network is definitely small when compared with other key players in the VPN market, like ExpressVPN, yet you do get a good spread of diverse locations.

Speeds
Speed is always one of the most important factors that needs to be considered when looking for a VPN. When using a VPN, your speeds are always going to drop a bit, but you do not want them to drop too much.
I ran a few speed tests on FrootVPN, and they weren’t the greatest. I would say the speeds are pretty moderate and there are certainly better VPNs out there in this regard.
Security
Aside from speed, security is another critical quality that should be considered when looking for a VPN. The VPN protocols that are supported by FrootVPN include the likes of L2TP, PPTP, and OpenVPN.
I was really happy to see that FrootVPN offers OpenVPN as a protocol choice, as this is always my recommendation. You can read my review on OpenVPN for more information on this.
In terms of encryption, FrootVPN runs on the encryption AES-256-CBC, which is run in combination with an SHA-384 hash and 2048-bit key.
Does FrootVPN collect logs?
There are a lot of VPNs that claim that they do not collect logs, yet when I have delved a bit deeper, I have discovered that this is not always the case.
There is nothing in the privacy policy at FrootVPN that suggests they do keep logs. However, there is always a concern when a VPN is based in somewhere like Sweden that is part of the 14 Eyes Alliance, which it must honour.
Plus, I must admit that the Terms and Conditions page and Privacy Policy page are both very vague. This is a bit concerning when you consider how important both of these pages are.

Ease of use
Ease of use is a real positive with FrootVPN. Open visiting the website, it is easy to use and there is a lot of good information on here. The client area also permits you to view the server list and you can manage the settings for your account as well.
One thing that is noticeable is that there is a lot of poor English scattered across the site. It’s not too difficult to get your head around, but it does appear a bit unprofessional.
Signing up to FrootVPN
In terms of signing up, the process is very easy and straightforward. All you require is your email address and a password, and you are good to go.
FrootVPN advertises that you can complete the sign-up process in just ten seconds. I guess it depends on how quickly you can type your email address and password!
You need to set-up everything manually on FrootVPN
One thing that is very long-winded and rather annoying is that you need to set-up everything manually on your account. This is because FrootVPN does not have a software client. This method can be rather tedious and it means that it takes quite a bit of time to switch servers.
If you’re tech-minded, this should not be too much of a problem. However, for beginners, you could find yourself struggling here, and so I would recommend going for a VPN that does not require you to do this manually.
If you’re competent with technology, though, you should find the process pretty simple and easy. You simply need to download the configuration files from the user area in FrootVPN. After you have done this, add the files to the OpenVPN client, input your credentials, and that’s all done and dusted.

P2P activity is allowed on all of the servers available via FrootVPN. The best thing to do here is to check out the server list first. You can then choose a location that has a lower server load.

You should have no trouble using FrootVPN with any device. It is going to work effectively on everything from Linux to Mac and Windows, as well as iOS and Android devices.

Customer support
I am always disappointed when a VPN does not offer live chat support. FrootVPN does have this feature available, which is great news, but it is only available during regular business hours, so do keep this in mind.
Your other option in terms of getting in touch with a customer service agent is to use the ticketing system. Every time I have used the system, I have had a reply within 24 hours, which is average.

If you decide to go down the 12-month route, you will be charged 35.88 EUR upfront, which equates to 2.99 EUR per month. This means you will save 40 per cent overall.
Should you decide to go for the 24-month plan, you will be charged 49.99 EUR upfront, which equates to a mere 2.08 EUR per month. This means you are going to save a massive 60 per cent.
